Pathway has operated as a social enterprise since the mid-1980s. It was founded to provide meaningful employment for people with intellectual disabilities who had lived in institutions. Integrated employment gave people opportunities for greater self-
determination, helped them build professional identities, and enabled them to earn their own income. For many, it was their first experience working as part of a team and being valued for their contributions.
The people served through this legacy have changed over time. Today, Pathway remains an Oregon leader in providing jobs, wages, and greater independence for people with qualifying disabilities. The State of Oregon’s, “Oregon Forward Program,” is the primary tool for our growth.
Pathway’s primary industry is property services, including janitorial work, flooring, painting, landscaping, pressure washing, and maintenance for commercial buildings, park restrooms, and more. We clean approximately 2 million square feet each day, operate in five counties, and employ about 100 people with disabilities.
These jobs build self-worth, and the paychecks provide financial independence. For many employees, Pathway’s wages and supervision are the only dependable support they have. By helping people become more self-sufficient, Pathway also reduces pressure on community resources. It is important that we create a safe place where workers are understood and valued. Many people consider Pathway to be like a second family.
Pathway can fulfill this mission only by delivering excellent commercial services. Effective training, coordination, and execution are essential to our growth and success. Our teams include people with and without disabilities who work together toward a shared goal: customer satisfaction.
